Hair Transplants for a Younger Look

Throughout history, hair and hairstyles have been considered an important part of a person’s attractiveness. When affected by hair loss, men and women experience stress, depression and a loss of self-esteem. The causes of hair loss are numerous: medications, diseases, nutritional deficits, or environmental pollutants. Hair loss can also result due to genetic influences and hormonal imbalances. By the age of 35, more than 40% of the male population experience significant hair loss. For women, 30% have noticeable hair loss by the age of 60.  Every year, more people are turning to hair transplant as a method to obtain a younger look and regaining their love of life.

Types of Hair Transplants

There are two major methods of performing hair transplants. The choice of which type is best for your individual situation and circumstances can be made when consulting with a skilled hair transplant surgeon. We’ll talk about both types and the procedures involved.

  • Surgical Hair Transplant. Technological advances have revolutionized the field of hair transplant surgery. The use of high power microscopes enable surgeons to harvest and transplant hair while mimicking the patterns of Mother Nature. Hair is taken from the donor site and then separated into follicular units. The process used is known as the UniStrand ® method. Using clips, an area of hair is isolated from the surrounding hair. It is trimmed and then the area is numbed with a local anesthetic. The selected area of hair is then removed in a thin strip. The incision is so small it is closed with one stitch. Once removed, the strip is separated into follicular units, which are then dissected to create the “UniGraft”. They are then transplanted into the balding area.
  • Non-surgical Hair Transplant. When a patient does not wish to, or cannot, undergo a surgical transplant, a non-surgical approach can be taken. This approach uses the NT system. Through use of this method, hair is inserted into the skin at the level of the second layer. It can be a permanent or semi-permanent solution. The hair attachment is custom designed and fitted to match the existing hair and conceal the balding areas.

Both methods provide natural looking results when performed by qualified hair transplant surgeons. No one will ever know you’ve had a hair transplant unless you decide to share with them.
